Why every human should keep learning new things - An inspiring story from Quran to humanity!

Today my blog is going to be a little different. I avoid writing anything with an opinionated mindset and prefer to be rationalist even in my discourse of religious duties. I would encourage the readers to be open and in learning mindset. Ok, let's move on! Learning new things could be a very important thing to lead successful life but also aggregating knowledge could be an expectation from the creator of the Universe. I did some research and found two interesting story from the Majestic Quran which gives lesson to humanity.

I have quoted below stories from two Surah (Chapters) from Quran and tried to explain with my understand.

First story:

1. The Surah Al-Alaq (the clot) is the beginning of the revelation of Quran in a chronological order of time. This is the first Ayat (dialogue) where Allah talks to Muhammad s.a.w. Till this time Muhammad peace be upon him was not a Prophet. He used to often go to the nearby mountain from his house to meditate. During this occasion the Angel Gabriel brings the message from Allah (God) to him.

Now let's see what was the first message of Allah in the Quran.

(IQRA) Read, ˹O Prophet,˺ in the Name of your Lord Who created humans from a clinging clot. Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, Who taught by the pen taught humanity what they knew not.

My interpretation: Here, Allah starts the conversation with reading and then reveals this secret that human is created from clinging clot which was later discovered in early 19th century by scientists. Then, Allah tells humanity was taught by pen. This cover reading and writing as the important characteristic of humanity.

Second Story:

2. Surah Bakra (Cow):

2:30 - ˹Remember˺ when your Lord said to the angels, “I am going to place a successive ˹human˺ authority on earth.” They asked ˹Allah˺, “Will You place in it someone who will spread corruption there and shed blood while we glorify Your praises and proclaim Your holiness?” Allah responded, “I know what you do not know.”

2:31 - He taught Adam the names of all things, then He presented them to the angels and said, “Tell Me the names of these, if what you say is true?”

2:32 - They replied, “Glory be to You! We have no knowledge except what You have taught us. You are truly the All-Knowing, All-Wise.”

2:33 -He said, "O Adam, inform them of their names." And when he had informed them of their names, He said, "Did I not tell you that I know the unseen [aspects] of the heavens and the earth? And I know what you reveal and what you have concealed."

2:34 - And ˹remember˺ when We said to the angels, “Prostrate before Adam,” so they all did—but not Iblîs, who refused and acted arrogantly, becoming unfaithful.

My interpretation: With this above story in Surah Baqra I think I can say safely that creation of Human/Humanity was with the purpose that they will learn, understand, and appreciate Allah of what has been created. Humans by design was created to become Knowledgeable than any other creation. On this basis Adam s.a.w with his knowledge was superior creation and that is why Angels and Iblis were asked to prostrate. Iblis deny to prostrate arrogantly and his disobedience to Allah was great transgression.

So, if we are not learning then we are doing injustice to ourselves on being a human. If we are not obtaining knowledge, then we are defeating the purpose of being human. Learning is an expectation from our lord Allah. That is why every human mandatorily must learn, learn, and learn newer things.

Like this there are many stories narrated in Quran. The compilation of these revelation over the years took the form of majestic Quran.  Quran is the guidance to whole of humanity. So, if we are not learning then we are doing injustice to ourselves on being a human. If we are not obtaining knowledge, then we are defeating the purpose of being human. Learning is an expectation from our lord Allah. That is why every human mandatorily must learn, learn, and learn newer things.
