My Earnest Desire by Shri Mohamed Kamal (Humorous Poetry)

My Earnest Desire

Once I had an irresistible urge
In me to become a section officer
And liked to bring the entire administration
In my finger tips and attain
Everything which I wished to.

Atlas! I could only become a clerk
But, the urge in me was glooming
Still green alive till I met
A gentle intelligent young
Direct recruit assistant a friend of mine.
I told him my desire and
He taught me the tricks

“Stand around in your office
With your hands in pocket
Watching everybody else work”
“Get all the receipts desired
From the clerk and gently
Distribute to everybody by marking
Some ALPHABETS in the corner and
Do not keep anything for you.”
“Some foolish subordinates may
Put up some files on your table
Don’t be afraid or be nervous
Gently lift the flap without
Unloosening the knot around,
Initial and transfer the burden
Of opening it to the Top Echelons
As the section officers used to do”

“Always reserve the ink of your
Pen for only calculating shares
That you have bought and the
Income tax benefits that you cheat
As the section officers to do”

Years after I had a chance
To meet the young intelligent man
Who taught me the short-cuts
Again in the corner of cigarette stall
Lighting his cigarette.
He asked me “why have you been
Sacked from the office” in surprise!

Oh! Friend I replied
“You know how section officers are?”
They stand around with their
Hands in the pockets watching
Everybody else work”
“We all know that” replied my friend
But why did they let you go out
“Jealousy” I answered to him
“All other my fellow colleagues
Thoughts that I was the
Section officer”
