The Forbidden River (By Irfan, Eshana and Jeffy written in 10 min timer) -31/01/2019
There lived a boy with his mother in a village far away.
They were very poor and lived on very little means. There came a day when they
reached the end of their rations, were starving and had nothing to eat for
days.
Out of desperation, the mother asks the boy to go to a
secluded and forbidden river where nobody went to, for some reason, to get fish
for them to eat. He ventures out in the morning on the journey and on reaching,
climbs over the fence around it and walks along the bank. He settles down with his
fishing line and waits for a while.
He feels a tug in the line and pulls it out. He saw a
beautiful purple fish and to his surprise the fish said, ‘Please don’t kill me,
I promise you won’t regret it’. The boy’s stomach grumbles with hunger at the
sight of the fish and he kills it anyway. Suddenly as soon as his back is
turned, a huge wave of water rises from the river and pulls the boy into the
water.
A huge group of armor clad giant fishes began attacking him
from all directions and began to wage a war against him. ‘Why did you
kill our brother?’ They kept repeating ‘Don’t you know this is forbidden
river?’
The boy shuts his eyes and prays, ‘God please save me’ just
as a fish thumps his stomach. The honest simple prayer was accepted, heard, and
out of no-where Poseidon appeared to help him. He fought for the boy and
clothes him with a shiny gold armor encrusted with pearls and crystals.
The boy pushed the fish away as the armor seemed to repel
them and swam to the surface. He quickly ran home to him mother and told her
what had happened at the river.
His mother said, “God had been good to you, and to us –
let’s sell the armor that you got and buy food with it!”. They went to the
market, sold the gold armor and with the money were able to live comfortably
and never returned to the forbidden river (or ate fish).
