The Colors of Life
Poet: Shri A Mohamed Kamal

-
It was a rainy day, I still remember,
I was sitting on the laps of my father,
Watching the enchanting beauty of nature.

Water minicules coming down to the earth
in a systematic rhythm,
Trying to catch one drop the other,
like a friendly chain.
I was a little boy then,
I saw the colours of the nature
for the first time in my life.

Suddenly the rain stopped, and
I don’t wanted the rain be stopped.
I cried, my father tried to soothe
But, I still cried.
My father wanted to change the mood,
He prayed the sky to rain more.
The sky was smiling and
Showed his seven different colours.
My father told me the sky is
Apologizing and bowing to you,
And says Good bye.
For the first time in my life
I saw the colours of the sky,
I still remember, I was a little boy then.

Sometime later, I was in my scholastic routine.
My father took our family to a hill station,
Nearby my village on a picnic, to spend the week-end.
As we reached the top, I asked my father
to show the origin of the earth.
My father pointing to a direction said,
that is the origin.
I saw all green and beauty,
My father told me that is the beginning.

When I looked the other side, I saw
All blue and twinkling on the earth.
The sun was reflecting yellow
on the arrow of birds flying in one corner.
I was little boy then,
I saw the colours of the heavenly earth
For the first time in my life.

The days grew and I too along-with the day.
I still remember, I was in the college,
Young energetic reading
Keats, Eliot, Milton and Shakespeare.
Enjoying the beautiful colours of thoughts
And dreams of the eternal poets.
I still remember, I was innocent
Till I met that beautiful girl
for the first time in my life.
I loved her, she loved me,
We loved together all we loved.
I saw all the beauty and
Wonderful things of a women in her.
I still remember, I saw the colours of
The women first time in my life.

But this time, I was young and manly
I got married, settled down with
A decent job in a metro city and
Started tasting the colours of the life.

In the walk of life, I started
Meeting many colours one by one
For the first time in my life.

Now I have seen colours of
Men and women, black and white,
Tall, short, stout and thin
And so on and yet I felt
Everything is colourful.
It is fantastic, to feel to have
Colours of life omnipotent too
The so-called God
Ram, Rahim and Jesus.

By then, I have gone old
Along-with the delighted memory of
Experience with colours and still having
To find the eternal colours
My soul riding in a colour cycle.
